Any handyman worth his saw has a set of hole saws. It is just one of those tools...
Holesaws are basically drill bits with a saw blade around them. As the name implies, they make holes in wood and metal.
If I have a choice, I would prefer to use a spade bit or self feed bit.
But I don't always have that choice. Holesaws work with my less powerful drills as well as the big gun 1/2 inch drills.
Holesaws are the only gig in town for making plumbing cut outs in plastic or fiberglass shower surrounds, or sink cabinet backs.
What I don't like about holesaws is that they require you stop after each use and remove the plug of waste material that tends to get wedged inside the holesaw. Thankfully, Lenox provides slots on the sides that allow you to get a screwdriver in there to help persuade things along.
What I like about these holesaws: Lenox has included an arbor with each holesaw in the set. No more having to remove the arbor from one holesaw to use it with another.
This is brilliant!Esp. because the heat from use can make these arbors very difficult to remove!
The case- Each holesaw has its own spot that it fits in in the blow molded case. The saws do not roll around or knock into each other. The latches are metal! I felt this case would survive on the jobsite.
Price-I paid about 75 dollars for the set, which included sizes:7/8,1,11/8, 13/4, 2, 21/2. The saws are 1 and 3/4 deep, allowing them to penetrate any standard 2x framing members.
